Junee Correctional Centre opened in 1993 with medium- and minimum-security sections for male inmates. The expansion of this facility will add a new 480-bed maximum-security section began in early 2017.
The expansion included:
- four new 120-bed maximum-security accommodation blocks built using pre-fabricated modular cells – the first use of this construction technique in a NSW prison
- a new industries complex to provide employment, education and programs to inmates
- a new satellite health clinic, segregation block and recreation areas.
